WE INSIST 2025!
One of the seminal works of jazz as protest, "We Insist! Max Roach’s Freedom Now Suite,” was first released in 1961 by Max Roach in collaboration with Abbey Lincoln and lyricist Oscar Brown, Jr. on Candid Records. Invoking both the historic pains and hopeful potentiality of the Black experience, Roach created a striking avante-garde vocal-instrumental suite commemorating the centennial of the Emancipation Proclamation and acted as an urgent call for freedom during the civil rights era, which remains poignant as ever today.
In honor of Roach's centennial, GRAMMY-Award Winning drummer-producer Terri Lyne Carrington has recorded the "Freedom Now Suite,” paying homage to Roach and Lincoln's legacy by sonically reimagining the suite, while being steadfast with the still poignant social justice message - We Insist! Continuing her work honoring jazz traditions, Carrington acknowledges Roach's legacy and its continued relevance to today's fight for freedom in order to bring forth a new story of jazz's future.
Joining her lineup are many emerging artists that she introduced to Candid Records: Morgan Guerin, Milena Casado, Simon Moullier, Zacchae'us Paul, Devon Gates, special guest percussionist Weedie Braimah, and vocalist Christie Dashiell filling in the role of Abbey Lincoln. Together, they impart the story of the "Freedom Now Suite" respecting its jazz tradition, while allowing the influences of other Black musical traditions, including gospel, R&B, and indigenous Afro-diasporic rhythms, with the resounding spirit and urgency that rings true on the original album.

Tuck & Patti's new album, We Are Gonna Be Friends, was produced and recorded by their rockstar niece,
Annie Clark (known as St. Vincent), and mixed by Tuck & Patti.

For over 43 years, this unique, genre-crossing vocal/guitar duo has cast its passionate musical spell worldwide, capturing the hearts of lovers, the respect of jazz buffs and the jaw-dropping awe of guitarists and singers.  Their recording career took off with 1988's groundbreaking Tears of Joy.  Now, 13 albums later, they have toured the world incessantly as a duo, appearing at times alongside Miles Davis, Count Basie, George Benson, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock and many others.  They have long been regarded by musicians and critics as the standard for an improvising musical duo.  Their music spans Duke Ellington, the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix--rock, pop, jazz, gospel, blues, folk, world and classical--classics and originals, but inevitably finally just sounds like Tuck & Patti.  Transcending categorization, Tuck & Patti are known for individual virtuosity in service of the greater goal of expressing love, hope and gratitude through their musical collaboration.

NOVEMBER 06 - 13 and 16 - 23
The power trio of electric bass (E'Lon JD), drums (Maison Guidry), and steel pans (Jonathan Scales) combines elements of jazz, classical, and progressive rock, peppered with Latin rhythms and soulful outbursts of funk. From club and festival stages across North America and Europe, and tours of Africa, Southeast and Central Asia as a Cultural Ambassador for the US Department of State, the Fourchestra’s live shows make even the most jaded listeners forget where they are… even if just for a precious moment. This may seem an odd thing to say, but on the verge of releasing their eighth studio recording, Jonathan Scales Fourchestra is only now truly embracing their identity as a group. For many years, Jonathan’s live band was a fluid lineup of top-notch musicians, and even included an “all-star” version with bassist MonoNeon (Prince, Nas), drummer Sput Searight (Snarky Puppy, Snoop Dogg) and percussionist Weedie Braimah (Trombone Shorty, Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah), as well as a number of other marquee players. Now, however, the Fourchestra is a decidedly indivisible band, and Jonathan is writing for the trio, not just the pans.
